Artist's Description
I have spent countless hours sketching ducks; they make me smile. These ducks were feeding in a pond behind the Valyermo Post Office, a shady place to paint. Where birds or animals are present, I take reference photos and add them back in studio for considered placement and pose in the composition. Between the photo references and sketches, I have source material to work with. It's enough to get the habitat blocked in and lit up in a limited time frame. Valyermo, November 2013.
About Jane Thorpe
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
