Artist's Description
This year I 'got around to it:' painting the pumpkins I buy to celebrate fall. Although I live in southern California, I grew up in New England so the fall season creates a special feeling in me. Additionally my husband's birthday is October 30th. Orange lights, pumpkins, gourds, dried weeds, even FAKE BROWN OAK LEAVES, all appeal to me this time of year. When I set up a still life, I include things I love which includes textiles I collect. I usually paint plein air, but I do like to mix it up with still life.
About Jane Thorpe
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
