This is my third California Aqueduct painting. In Valyermo, the Aqueduct ends abruptly to go under a property. This view makes me think of a swimming pool with its rope of floats and small utility building. The Aqueduct's concrete cover crosses a wash, passes fields and a park (or is that a golf course?). I redirected the concrete path for the sake of composition. There are many Aqueduct access points with off road pullouts in Valyermo, convenient for positioning my car (mobile studio) for shade. Juniper and sage, distant fields and mountains; painting the Aqueduct in the desert is always a treat. May 2015
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
