Artist's Description
I was dog-sitting for friends when their tree was blooming. Painting these fragrant flowers was both a challenge and a pleasure. I am awed and amazed when I witness and attempt to paint the Master's handiwork. I often recall the title of William Wendt's painting, "Where Nature's God Hath Wrought" whether the handiwork is touchable (like a flower), mobile and audible (like ducks and bison), or massive (like foothills and rock formations). My awe and amazement also comes from sketching flowers (from bud to bloom to decline) and appreciating their design and engineering.
About Jane Thorpe
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
