I am working on a collection of paintings of my own 'backyard,' the Canyon where I live. This view is from the fire road that follows the Canyon's east rim south from the park. There are many Eucalyptus trees growing in this dry area; they seem to thrive. Many have exposed roots, gripping the sandstone ridges while the rock wears away year by year. I've lived in this Canyon many years, and I have yet to see one lose its footing to erosion. The late afternoon sun casts a golden glow reflecting warm light into the shadows.
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
