Artist's Description
This day, the storm clouds were threatening to rain, and dramatic against the tawny backhills where the buffalo herd was grazing. I hoped it wouldn't rain but left the car's hatchback open just in case, and of course when it came, the storm moved in fast. At first I tried painting under the hatch, but when it started raining sideways I grabbed my gear and hunkered down in the trunk. The shaft of light, that bit of blue sky was amazing to paint. I took some photographs but it never captures the majesty of it all. Zion Mountain Ranch, September 2012.
About Jane Thorpe
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
