Artist's Description

I had a bunch of sunflowers and had placed the vase in the livingroom near my buffalo skull. The more I looked at it the more I considered painting them. As it happened, my husband was in Michigan at his family reunion. I cleared my schedule the next day, set up my easel in the livingroom and painted all day, no sidetracks. Some days, like this particular day, every stroke, every color goes down right. When I paint still lifes, it's from life; the flowers are real, not artificial. Because they don't last long, I'm compelled to paint them quickly, in their prime. In addition, I am partial to all things buffalo (high interest level shall we say?), so this still life was close to my heart. Paint what you love.

Jane Thorpe

Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement.
