This year was my third Rancho Camulos Paint Out. Interesting buildings, beautiful gardens, historical and current agricultural subjects, and vistas. What did I paint? The old two-tone truck out back, beyond the fence, parked with the last load of discarded brick. Old trucks catch my eye, both shiny restored trucks and those with the patina of age, weathered by the elements of decades. The first year at Rancho Camulos I painted a red truck parked under a dilapidated shed roof, also inspired by its patina. This year's truck has style: two-toned, and stylish lines. I asked my husband, then googled some pictures, and figure it may be a 1962 Chevy. I like to think it will be pressed into service again as historic buildings on site are restored and more debris is dumped out back. It is parked, waiting for work.
Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
