A friend gave me a bouquet of yellow tulips to celebrate a milestone. I'm not partial to still lifes, but I wanted to paint these tulips before their demise. Being early in the year and New Year's resolutions fresh in my mind, I resolved to paint them. I used a blanket for staging. While working on the blanket folds it began to remind me of the Great Plains. And since I like to paint buffalo, why not add a small herd moving across those plains? And to make the roaming buffalo make sense, I added a buffalo silhouette to the vase. If I'm going to paint, I'm going to paint what I like to paint, and what makes sense to me. Paint what you love, or why bother? My preferred title for this is "Yellow Tulips and Buffalo Dreams."
