This is the second California Aqueduct painting I've done in Valyermo, CA. Easy access at multiple points makes it possible. The desert lighting and backdrop keeps me interested. The black, duck-like birds (American Coots?) were swimming 'into the sunset' when I took their photo; their position helps direct the viewer's eye toward the focal point.

Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
