I have been painting with the TULARIVA-Tuesday LA River Art Group since August of this year, meeting at a different access area each week. This painting is from North Atwater Park. My composition changed 'mid stream' when I started counting the Canadian Geese in my stretch of water; thirty-one!! plus one egret and a few ducks. I noticed more flocks of Geese up and downstream. This was the first time I've seen them at the LA River. They were feeding, sunning, sleeping, and chatting it up. That is the 5 Freeway at the top of the concrete bank. It's weird to see freeway traffic rushing by while painting geese going about their day at their pace. The green space seems to absorb the sound and blur the traffic (a very good thing). I was painting in Canada in early August, but had to return home to LA to see Canadian Geese! September 1, 2015

Jane was born and raised in Stratford, CT. Her father was a self-employed commercial artist who worked at home, which gave her access to both supplies and encouragement. She moved to California in 1973. Jane has been an artist all her life, working in different mediums and working at a variety of commercial art jobs. She earned a degree in Fine Art and says there is always more to learn. She started plein air painting in the 1980’s in watercolor. Since 2010, she has focused on plein air painting in oil. She finds that all the mediums she has worked in, all the jobs she’s held, all her life experience, all contribute to this latest passion.
